Baby Backpack Carrier
Is It a Backpack or a Carrier?
Backpacks vs Carriers
If you're a "road weary" parent of a baby or know of someone who is, you might want to investigate the use of a baby backpack carrier.
Why, you ask?
Let's face it...parents always seem to have their hands full. Literally! For example, when shopping, they're either lugging around a baby diaper bag, trying to corral the baby's toys, and/or attempting to push a stroller through a crowd. It's a wonder that parents ever travel outside of their homes.
So just what are baby carrier backpacks?
Is it a backpack or a carrier? Some people refer to any type of baby carrier as simply a carrier. Others break them down into slings, backpacks, or rear/front facing carriers. Semantics aside, let’s focus on the "true" baby backpack.
Baby Backpacks
A baby backpack is a standard style backpack, as you would expect to see a hiker wearing, that you use to transport a baby. There are many variations of the basic backpacks form, but the function is the same. While some back packs for babies are built with aluminum frames, have rain and/or sun shields, and are sturdy enough to take out on the trails, other carriers are smaller scale with lots of padding, much like an oversized backpack for a student’s belongings. Some features of baby backpacks include the following:
- Easily operated backpack "kickstands" that allow the pack to be set solidly on the ground without tipping over
- Safety harnesses to secure the baby in the carrier
- Lumbar supports and heavy strap padding to ensure the comfort of the person carrying the backpack
- Numerous pockets on the backpack for carrying baby bottles, toys, or other essentials
- Adjustable seats and back/neck rests for the baby
You don't have to be planning a hiking trip to appreciate the use of a baby backpack. Whether traveling through the mall or strolling through the park for a short walk, a backpack for carrying your baby gets the job done.

Baby Backpacks For the Older Children
Baby backpacks are very convenient ways to carry babies older than six months and are a bit too heavy to carry in a sling.
The backpacks for babies have a seat for the child and fit on your shoulders in the same way as other backpacks. These baby carriers have a lightweight frame that does not add to the weight of the child and helps to evenly distribute the weight over your back.
Your shoulders and hips actually carry most of the weight so you don't have to worry about doing any injury to the muscles of your back.
