Bassinets Bassinet

Add Charm to the Nursery With a Bassinet

A bassinet is one piece of baby furniture that will never go out of style.

Not only does a bassinet make a cute and cuddly bed for an infant but it also adds an old-fashioned and country feel to the home.

Even though the styles of bassinets have changed over the years, they still follow through with frills and layers of coverings that decorate the tiny crib. They can be made of any material, but the most enduring material is wood.

You can have the bassinet as a rocker to help you rock a fussy baby and give your arms a break. Most bassinets are on wheels, which makes them very portable and easy to move from one room of the house to another.

Basic Style of a Bassinet

A bassinet is basically a basket raised off the ground. It is usually embroidered heavily with dresses and skirts covering the bottom portion of the tiny bed. The design is such that the parents can keep the infant close to their bed during the night so that they can keep a close watch on the newest member of the family. When the baby cries, parents can easily hear the infant and don’t have far to go to attend to the baby’s needs.

Features of a Bassinet

Although bassinets differ in style and design, all of them share some basic features, such as:

  • Sturdy bottom and wide base providing stability
  • Smooth surfaces with not sharp edges or points
  • Foldable legs
  • Locks to prevent legs from folding when the baby is in the bassinet
  • Firm and snug mattress

Although bassinets are not really necessary, they do provide a small secure space for the baby to sleep for the first few weeks or months.
