Baby Car Seats Buying GuideTable of ContentsHow To Evaluate The Best Carseat For Your Needs When Is My Child Ready For A Normal Seat Belt Installing Your Rear Facing Car Seat Selecting The Best Brand Of Car Seat
Baby Car Seat Buying GuideThe best baby car seat for your baby is one that is the right size for your baby and properly fit in your car. That said, there are dozens of different car seats to choose from. Buying a high priced model won't guarantee your baby is any safer than if you buy a lower priced model. Price is largely contingent on the number of extra perks or features a car seat has to offer. These days you can't leave the hospital without a car seat installed correctly in your car. Why? Car seats protect your child from death or injury if an accident occurs.
History of the Car SeatBet you didn't expect that a car seat had any history right? Guess what? The car seat has a long history. The first child restrain device was developed in the late 1800s. This restrain system basically consisted of a bag and a drawstring you could attach to the seat of a car. Its purpose? To keep your child from either squiggling out of their seat or falling off it while the car was moving. During this time of course, few people owned cars, so developing a safe and modern car seat was obviously not a priority for inventors and developers. However, once Henry Ford began automating the car making process and cars became more affordable, more and more people started driving. As soon as people starting using the car as a routine form of transportation, the number of accidents abounded. Casualties among young children increasingly became a problem weighing heavily on the minds of those young and old alike. The first working model of an infant car seat came about during the 1930s. This first seat was supposed to help hold a child in place while the car was moving, but it wasn't designed to protect children if the car was in an accident. Thus, the carseat was effective for making sure a child remained seated while the car was in motion. This at least provided some protection. During about the same time seat belts started popping up in vehicles large and small. These also arose as more and more deaths resulted form car crashes. It took 30 more years however for designers to start seriously addressing infant safety. During the mid 1960s auto designers in Sweden began looking at ways to develop a rear-facing child carseat to better protect infants in the event of an auto accident. A several years the designers developed a model that would work efficiently. Interestingly enough, it took some time and education to convince the public they actually needed to use a child safety seat. Most felt a conventional seat belt was enough to do the trick. An educational campaign soon emerged to help teach the public why ordinary seat belts would not work to protect infants and children in the event of a crash, and to promote the benefits of child car seats. Soon after this many states began passing laws that required parents to buy child safety car seats for their children. In modern times infant and toddler car seats are available for every car imaginable. You can't take your bay home from the hospital without one. Most parents today understand how vital a child safety seat is to their baby's health and well-being. Modern manufacturers are constantly developing new designs and features to entice parents to buy their models.
