Things to Look for When Buying a Stroller

When buying a stroller you want to be sure you get the best value for your investment.

This means buying a durable and sturdy stroller that will accommodate your personal preferences for an extended period of time.

Here are some considerations when buying a stroller for your child:

  • You should opt for a stroller that provides a five-point rather than a three-point harness. Most older strollers come with a three-point harness. While this is helpful, a three point harness isn't as effective at restraining a squirming toddler as a five point system. A five-point harness will click over the hips and over each shoulder, much like the straps on a deluxe high chair.
  • If buying a double stroller, be sure to check whether both seats recline. If you have two infants you'll need to have two reclining seats and not all strollers accommodate this need.
  • Check to make sure that the stroller provides breaks so you can secure the stroller while stationary. Much like a runaway shopping cart, many strollers have a mind of their own when you least expect it.
  • If you plan to buy a jogging stroller, try to find a model that has swivel wheels. These allow greater maneuverability.
  • Be sure to check the weight of the stroller before buying. If you buy a 30 pound stroller, keep in mind you'll be pushing the 30 pounds of your stroller plus the weight of your little one. Make sure you are capable of hauling around the load you have before buying.
