When Is My Child Ready For A Normal Seat Belt

Laws vary from state to state on seatbelt use.

In general however, you can use the following criteria to decide when your child is ready for a normal seat belt:

  • Your child should be able to sit with their back firmly against the seat.
  • The shoulder strap should pass over your child's shoulder, not their neck and not their arm.
  • Your child's knees should easily come to the edge or end of the seat.
  • The seat belt should cross the tops of your child's thighs.
